Another case from Flying Saucer Review.
by R. H. B. Winder
THE setting is near-perfect for a fairy tale: the village,
60l ft. up in the Chillerns. is quite isolated by the
boundary fence of Whipsnade Park Zoo Close to the
N.W.. and a deepish valley lo the South; and by the
escarpment of these chalk hills dropping steeply away
on the far side of the Zoo. It all seems well removed
from ions and ionization. but perhaps not quite so
remote as your editor and G. W. Creighton anticipated
when they suggested that I Should report on this case.
It all started with a single flash of lightning which
struck on or near the common at about l.45 p.m on
January 28, 1966. Probably an ordinary stroke, because
rain was falling and the atmosphere was heavy, but
it could have been initiated by artificial ionization of
the air. l mention the possibility not because any
flying object was seen. But isolated strokes are not all
that frequent and this one was certainly followed by
some extraordinary events.
Alex Butler. aged I0 years, and his friends-Tony
Banks, Kerry Gahill, Andrew Hoar,
David Inglis, Colin Lonsdale and John
Mickleburgh were playing on the Common on
their way to afternoon school. They were in the vicinity
of the Dell, which is a shallow valley thickly strewn
with hawthorn, gorse and bracken; and a few Old
tin cans and motor tires. The undergrowth is riddled
with passages connecting several dens under the bigger
bushes, all no doubt the work of generations of
Children and animals; and there is a small open space
hidden in the middle. The whole is reminiscent of a
surface version of a miniature Viet Cong hideout,
providing good cover, even in Winter, coupled with
surprising freedom of movement-for diminutive
creatures. The school is about 200 yards away and the
nearest houses maybe 150 yards, but small persons
could remain concealed for a long time were it not for
the children who obviously regard this as their territory
and know virtually every blade of grass in it.
A few minutes after the lightning, and its associated
thunder. Alex was casting a proprietary eye over the
Dell from the top of its northern bank when he saw,
quite clearly over the open center, "a little blue man
with a tall hat and a beard" standing upright and still
in front of the bushes at the opposite bank.
He immediately shouted a description to his friends.
who were initially skeptical but confirmed his view on
joining him. Reacting as if to an intruder, they all
began to run down the bank towards the stranger who
was only about 20 yards away. The little man reacted,
in turn, by “disappearing in a puff of smoke".
It is easy at this stage, to rationalize the happening
into a fairy story based on optical and electrical
effects emanating from the lightning, but this tale
continues-without further discharges.
Finding nothing at the place where he was first seen,
the boys ran on. Little to their right along the bottom
of the dell and then up the far bank; still searching
for their elusive quarry. They soon saw him again
this time to their left farther along the top of the bank
and on the opposite side of the bushes that had previously
formed his background. Once again he was
standing still and facing them at a range of 20 yards.
They again approached him and he repeated his
disappearing trick.
The third time they saw him he was back at the
bottom of the Dell, not far from his original position.
His pursuers had by now reached his second location.
Looking at him through the little bushes, they
became aware of “voices" which they describe in
a manner suggesting a continuous
incomprehensible, and "foreign-sounding" babble,
coming from a point in the bushes closer to them and
down the slope to the right of their line of sight. A
feeling that the little fellow had associates who were
communicating with him and to whom he was replying,
although they could detect no movement on his part.
induced a sense of caution which deterred them from
rushing towards him as before. Instead. the boys
continued to circle the Dell until they could look
down it, whereupon they saw him for the fourth and
last time still standing as motionless as ever in the
same place. Uncertain what to do next. they milled
around for a few more minutes before they told their teacher’s
their experience.
They warned Miss Newcomb that she would not
believe it, but, knowing them as well as she does and
after assessing their excitement and listening to their
story, she did believe them. She then very sensibly
separated them and made each write it down in his
own words. The essays were re-written two weeks later.
not in order to alter their substance but simply to
improve their spelling and tìdyness, and were pasted
into a book entitled "The Little Blue Man on Studham
Common”. It makes fascinating and convincing reading.
I only wish there were space enough to reproduce it
here. No doubt it will occupy an honored place in
the archives of the Studham Village Primary School.
The case was brought to our attention by Mr. L.
Moulsler, a long-standing reader of this review, who
sent a cutting about it from the Borough
Gazette, dated March 3. He kindly accompanied
CB., G.W.C. and myself in a preliminary survey of the
district and reminded us of local sightings investigated
by him in previous years: an apparent landing at the
rim of the hills not far from the Zoo and another,
more controversial, case at the nearby Flying Club,
of which he is a member. G.W.C. has also found another
cutting from the aforementioned newspaper: dated
October I5, 1965, it describes mystery lights in the
sky over Whipsnade. Finally, it is hardly necessary
to mention the Wildman Case (FLYING SAUCER Review,
March/April 1962,) that look place near Aston
Clinton about six miles away on February 9. i962.
Returning lo our present case: Miss Newcomb
arranged for Mr. and Mrs. Creighton, Colin McCarthy,
and myself to meet the principals at the school on
Saturday afternoon, May 13. Without any prompting
from their obviously respected and loved teacher,
they gave a very competent account of the whole
incident. They also took us to the places involved and
then returned with us to the schoolroom to go into
more detail. The following additional points emerged -
They estimate the little man as tall (by comparison
with themselves), with an additional 2ft. accounted for
by a hat or helmet best described as a tall brimless
bowler, i.e. with a rounded top. The blue color turned
out to be a dim grayish-blue glow lending to obscure
outline and detail. They could, however, discern a line
which was either a fringe of hair or the lower edge
of the hat. two round eyes, a small seemingly
triangle in place of a nose, and a one-piece vestment
extending down to a broad black belt carrying a black
box at the front about six inches square. The arms
appeared short and were held straight down close
to the sides at all times. The legs and feet were indistinct.
The "beard" is interesting: apparently it extended
from the vicinity of the mouth downwards to divide
and ran to both sides of the chest. Although agreeing
that it could have been breathing apparatus. the boys
could not see clearly enough to be certain and this
thought had not occurred to them.
The disappearances caused me some difficulty at
first, but became more understandable after further
explanation of the "smoke" was apparently a
whirling cloud of yellowish-blue mist shot towards the
pursuers, possibly from the box on the belt. They
agreed that he could have stepped into the bushes before
this camouflage cleared, although it dissipated quite
quickly. They heard no sound other than the voices
and saw no movement at any time. Nor did they smell
any smells or see anything strange in the vicinity,
either on the ground or in the air.
The glow and the mist could have been the products
of ionising radiation. Indeed, similar emanations, not
necessarily from the same source could have triggered-
off the lightning in an atmosphere already charged by
natural processes. However. we must not carry speculation too far. All that we are certain of at this stage is that this is no ordinary fairy tale. Nobody who knows the boys disputes that it really happened.

Friends of Lou,
I'm sorry to have to tell you that Lou died of cancer this afternoon at 4:55 PM CST in Morrilton, Arkansas at the River Chase Rehabilitation and Care Center where he had been under hospice care since early September. He died peacefully, was not in pain, and was surrounded by a small group of friends. A memorial service is tentatively planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 4, at the Harris Funeral Home in Morrilton, AR. Confirmation of the date and time will be in an obituary to be posted in a day or two on the Harris Funeral Home website at www.harrisfuneralhomes.net. If I can provide additional information, please let me know.
If you cannot attend Lou's memorial service, but would like to send me a short statement to be read at the service about how you knew and/or will remember Lou, I will be glad to do that for you. We may also include these statements in a program to remember Lou this April at the Ozark UFO Conference in Eureka Springs. Also, if you have any favorite photos of Lou that we can use in the service, I would appreciate it if you would scan or photograph them and send them to me, and especially any early photos from the 70s and 80s. I have attached below one of the last photos of Lou, taken with myself outside the nursing home in mid-November.
Since Lou did not have a wife, children or siblings, he left his estate, including 80 acres of land, to a trust to be used to encourage UFO research and education through awards, fellowships and mini-grants over the next several years.
Lou was one of the most interesting people I ever met, and like many of you, I thought of him as one of my best friends. He was one of a kind, and will be greatly missed, both as a person and for his many contributions to ufology. His circle of friends goes far beyond the e-mail list I'm sending this message to. If you have email addresses for others who knew and cared about Lou, please forward this message on to them.

BIGFOOT BABIES SEEN IN FOUR STATES
The following four reports are from people who live in remote areas and have seen Bigfoot babies. You can find their complete accounts and those of others in the book “Impossible Visits” by Christopher Noel. The book, published in 2009, primarily focuses on ways a few Bigfoot and humans have established unique relationships with each other.
REPORT ONE is from a man in New York State who’s had direct experiences with Bigfoot since he was six years old. At that young age, a Bigfoot family befriended him. He named the giant male Midget, his mate Momma, and their three children Sissy, Junior and Little Brother.
“They are like us but they groom each other and they got wild eyes if you look them straight on at first, then they relax. They’re like a married couple, they bicker and everything. Plus I didn’t want to share this because I didn’t feel you would believe me, but they had a baby. . . . I might be the only human to see a baby Bigfoot. Very cute, he looked like a newborn maybe a foot and a half from head to toe or two feet maybe. They had him in a piece of cloth they scavenged from somewhere.”
REPORT TWO is from a Texas woman who, along with her husband and two young teenage children, has had ongoing interactions with a Bigfoot family.
THE WOMAN: “They usually show themselves to the younger kids, more than to us grownups. Our daughter (Rachel) is the main one to see them. She’s actually seen the mom and twin babies!
“If our chronology is accurate, we saw the mom pregnant outside our backdoor early last December. She was huge and we think her giving birth was imminent. Then Rachel (later) saw two babies in our pasture that ran for their momma and they were about the size of a mid-size dog. They ran on all fours, like a chimp runs. . . . Rachel said the mom she saw was beautiful. She had very pretty features.”
THE DAUGHTER: “It was two baby Bigfoots. I was shocked! And I shined the light back on the cornfield, and I could see them running through the corn, and I was like, I’m going to go get a closer look, so I ran up to the fence, and I get within about six to eight feet of the fence, and Mama walks out, puts her hands on the fence and just looks at me. . . . She had a very human face, very pretty. She didn’t have hair on her face either. Black skin, chocolate black. More like charcoal.”
REPORT THREE is from a woman who lives adjacent to a thick forest and vast swampland in North Carolina.
“They imitate my son, and say, ‘Mom!’ loudly, they can sound just like him. I thought he was playing tricks, until they did it when I was here alone, and then when he was with me talking to me.”
When my grandchild was here last year, at age six, she used to walk near the woods and talk to herself constantly. She would take her toys and play there too. I would be gardening, and ask her who she was talking to. She would say the hairy people in the woods, or the hairy kids in the woods. I thought she had a good imagination. I didn’t know anything about the Bigfoots back then.”
REPORT FOUR is from a woman who is a retired police detective in Oklahoma.
“My nine-month-old grandson, Squirt, was sitting in the sandbox at the time of ‘the monkey-chase,’ as the kids called it. He was reaching and laughing at the bushes where they burst out. It was his behavior that got my attention at first. He was cooing and laughing as he reached out in that direction. I thought wow he must see one of the cats. A split second later the first one burst out of the brush and ran bouncing across the yard. . . .
“I saw three of them. The grandkids say there were five altogether, plus the babysitter. . . . I saw one very dark one, mouse-colored, and one red. The grandsons said there was actually three very dark ones and the two lighter one. They were everywhere in a matter of seconds. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever had happen. They burst out of the bushes, ran all around us, and the kids gave chase like a game of hide-n-seek. They won hands down. Then they were gone. They were between two-and-a-half and three-and-a-half feet tall, rail thin and fast as the wind. Along with a female about five-and-a-half feet tall hiding in the shadows and holding a baby. . . . The most amazing thing is they never made a sound.”

I heard this on Coast to Coast last night too. A blatant statement that will make more people than usual believe in UFOs! It was also sent to me today by Robert Gribble, I guess he couldn't believe they would blatantly say that. There are so many persons that have seen and experienced UFOs that it doesn't matter what the TPTB says.

October 1, 1975 – Kingsley, Michigan – 10 EDT
From UFOSNW.COM
Description: My ex-husband and I were driving in our car on a dirt/gravel road in Grand Traverse County, Michigan between Kingsley, Michigan and Buckley, Michigan. I believe the road was Schichtel Road. Now I believe that road is a paved road with houses on it. The year was somewhere in the mid 1970s. I never wanted to tell anyone because I thought they wouldn’t believe me. I am not too sure of the exact time of year, but I think it was in the fall. The road was lined with trees on both sides. We came to an opening on the right side of the car and a jet was hovering in that field not over 100 yards away. It was probably closer because we saw people in the jet windows. It was perfectly still, not moving at all and hovering above the ground about 20 feet. It made no noise.
At this point my ex-husband and I looked at each other and said: “What is that? Then, “It’s a jet and there are people in it and it’s not moving, but that’s impossible.” Even if it were a jet (it looked like one, not a hologram) jets don’t hover. It was silver in color with no markings on it. We were very scared and found a place to turn around to go the other way and when we passed the open field the jet was still there. We went home.
Seeing a jet in that area anytime day or night, hovering or flying was very unusual. We were 20 miles south of an airport which only prop planes flew in and out of during the 1970s.
It was a solid object. The people in the windows were people. My conjecture is possibly time travel? There is no other explanation other than parallel universes. I really don’t know. I have read a few other sightings something like this but not as graphic as the one we saw.
Please let me know if there are any more sightings such as this as early as the mid 1970′s. No internet, camera phones or cell phones.

About 1967 I met a UFO researcher with Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) in Seattle, Washington. His name was Gene Thrune. In the course of doing research he proceeded to tell me about the time he was traveling from Seattle to Bend, Oregon on business. As he was driving up the Columbia River Gorge on what was then Highway 30, he saw over the Columbia River what he thought was an airplane but as he approached it he could see it was not. It looked like the fuselage of a silver airplane, however it had no wings. It did have windows like in the above drawing. In the windows he could see people in formal dress standing up and looking out the windows. As he proceeded on pass it all of a sudden it made an 180 degree turn and passed him up. He drove on to Bend, Oregon. The next day in the newspaper in Bend there was a photo of the object on the front page of the paper! It could have been the same object as the story above tells about or one similar.

INSIGHT OR INCITE
George Van Tassel was a famous contactee in the 50's. He was given plans to build the Integratron by his alien contacts. When completed it would cure man's physical maladies. Unfortunately it was never finished by the time he passed on. He also produced "Proceedings" monthly. This article was written by him.
_________
You may consider this short narration factual, or fictional; just as you wish. It is based on hearsay from an ex-Navy man, and several "projections" into the places described, by yours truly.
Near a far northern Air Force base, which I am not naming out of respect for government security, is a large cavern in a mountain side. The mountain is surrounded by barbed wire and an armed guard. Inside this tremendous cavern is a large amount of machinery. Some of it is the creation of another advanced civilization on the Earth. Others of these machines are the product of this present American people.
Secrecy shrouds every movement in this area. People working inside the cavern have the finest of equipment, lighting, heating, and ventilation. The very latest electronic and magnetic appliances are gathered there.
The cavern is segregated into areas, each having large signs warning the people not to go from their own area to any other, under threat of rigid penalties.
Parts are wrapped and covered to prevent the people from seeing any assembly they are not working on. Is this where some of our "missing" scientists are now working?
In one super secret closed-in area is a "flying saucer." It sets upon a retractable center stand much like a lap base. The entrance to the "saucer" is up a ladder in this center stand tube. On the base is stenciled in red paint "Tesla Sphere - P-A."
Did Nicola Tesla really die, or is he still alive in this cavern?
One assembly in the cavern looked like the rotor of the power plant of the Venusian scoutship that I went aboard in August, 1953.
Everyone in the cavern is living in a state of terrific tension and suspicion of everyone else. Several had a high psychic "pickup."
In another room sits a humanoid under Marine guard. He has an exceptionally large head and large golden eyes. He is very telepathic, and is not happy in his confinement. At intervals he is fed and permitted some exercise, always under armed guard.
In the opposite hemisphere is an almost equal condition. In the South Polar region is another entrance to the underground. Surrounding it is vegetation, a mild climate, and warm water lakes. An expedition of US Military and scientific men are established nearby.
A positive polarity fog enshrouds the area. This fog causes people to apparently disappear at a short distance. Undergound is an unknown race of people. They are all that is left of a great race that occupied our surface at one time. They have been called by some the "rainbow" people.
____________
Since this article was written in the 50's it makes one wonder when the underground facilities were first begun. Sounds like Area 51!
I recently watched a movie on television about a exploration group that went to the South Polar region. They discovered the warm lake with green grass growing around it. That program verified what Van Tassel said in the article.
The above article was written July, 1956.

DYING GIRL SAVED BY HUMANOID SURGEONS
Remarkable cure in Brazil reported to Flying Saucer Review
by Olavo T. Fontes, M.D.
On May I?, 1958, my friend Joân Marlins, who at
that time was publishing in the magazine O
Cruzeiro a series of cases on the Brazilian UFO "Flap"
of 1957, received the following letter. datelined Rio de
Janeiro, May I4, 1958:
"Dear Sr. Marlins.
"I have seen your articles and l wish to congratulate
you.
"l believe in the existence of the so-called 'flying
saucers` because l was a witness to an occurrence related
with them. 1 don`t know if you are going to believe me,
but I swear for everything that I am telling only the
truth. I am poor but honest, and I am not going to
mention the true names and you will understand.
“My name is Anazia Maria*. I am 32 years old and
living now in Rio de Janeiro.
"I worked with Sr. X (my ex-master) until December
1957, he is a rich man from this city, forgive me for not
giving the name.
"The daughter of my master was with cancer in the
stomach. She suffered too much, and I was engaged to
serve as a kind of housekeeper and mostly to look for
Miss Laiz, the sick girl.
“She had been submitted to all treatments. but the
doctors had said there was no hope. In August, |957,
my master took all the family to his little farm close lo
Pelropolis hoping to see Miss Laiz better in that good
climate. but the days passed and nothing happened. She
couldn`t| call, the pains were horrible and she was always
taking injections of morphine.
“On the night of October 25, I remember well, Miss
Laiz’s pains were terrible, the injection was valueless,
we were thinking that she was going to die, my master
was crying in the corner, when suddenly a strong light
illuminated the right side of the house (at the little
farm close to Petropolis). We were gathered in Miss
Laiz`s room, which window was placed exactly on the
right side, the room was lighted only by the small table
light. Suddenly it got so much light as if the beam of a
searchlight had been pointed to the inside of the room.
"Sr. Julinho. son of my master, ran to the window
first and saw the so-called saucer. It wasn`t very big, I
have no study to be able to tell what was the diameter
and width. I know it wasn`t very big, the upper part
was involved by a yellow reddish light, and suddenly
an automatic hatch opened out and two small figures
came down. They walked in the direction of the house
and another figure stayed in the hatch of the saucer. It
became dark, and inside it-through the hatch-
appeared a light-greenish light like we see in a nightclub.
"The men entered the house, they were small in size,
they should have 1.20 meters in height, smaller than
the younger son of the master who was 10 years old.
They had long hair reaching the shoulders. yellow-red
hair, small eyes slanted like the Chinese, but of a strong
green colour. They had things on the hands, I think
they were gloves. the cloth was white and seemed thick.
The Clothes were all white, but the chest, the back and
the wrist glowed - l don`t know how to explain. They
approached the bed of Laiz., who was groaning with
pain with her eyes wide open and not knowing what was
happening around and was moving or talking, in a
horrible expectation. I was in the room together with
Sr. X and his wife. Sr. Julinho and his wife, and
Olavinho who was the ten-year old son of the master.
"The men looked silently at me and stopped beside
the bed of Laiz, spread on the bed the things they
carried. made a gesture to Sr. X, and one of them put
his hand on the forehead of Sr. X who started to tell
them all the case of Laiz, the disease, everything in
telepathy. The room was in absolute silence.
“The men began to illuminate the belly of Miss
Laiz with a bluish white light, which showed everything
inside; we all saw what was inside the belly of the girl.
With another instrument that was making a creaking
sound, “he” pointed in the direction of the stomach of
Miss Laiz„ and we could see the ulcer in the stomach.
“That operation lasted for almost half an hour. Miss
Laiz slept, and they went away, but before leaving the
house communicated lo Sr. X, through telepathy. that
he should give a medication to Miss Laiz during a
month; then they gave to Sr. X a hollow ball which
was of steel. l think, and inside we found 30 small white
balls, they were the capsules to be taken one each day,
and she would be cured.
"Really Miss Laiz was cured, and Sr. X, according to
the agreement he had made with those men, avoided
any publicity.
"In December. a few days before I left their house
Miss Laiz went back to the doctor who verified she had
no cancer anymore.
“l left the house, but made the promise to keep
absolute secret about the case. However, I am telling
you about it, and I ask you to keep the secret. If the
case is mentioned in your articles there will be no
consequences because l will never disclose their names.
However, l swear to you that everything really happen-
ed; my darling Miss Laiz was condemned to die of
cancer of stomach and almost at the end she was saved
by an instrument that looked like a flashlight, that
emitted Some rays that look off the cancer and she was
cured. And those men have done many things of this
kind to the people of the earth (planet). to show us that
we must have no fear of them.
"They saved Miss Laiz, and in the same night went
back to the saucer and were gone forever.
"They are indeed from Mars and come
here to Search for magnesium, which they purify there
in their planet, and this magnesium is used for their
constructions and for the so~called Flying saucers.
“They have no intention of fighting against the
people of earth, this 1 was informed hearing what Sr.
X was telling the family- Please. don`t put me in a bad
position; if you mention the case. never tell in your
articles that you know about it from Anazia Maria.
"I don`t want to pass for a blackmailer or be in a bad
position with my ex-master. I am telling you this only
to help you in your investigation of the problem.
"Forgive me for not giving my address. l live in Río,
in a suburban district. I am honest and sincere but I
don’t want no press interviews because of my ex-master.
“Thanks for your attention.
Anazia Maria.”
The writer was obviously a person of little Culture,
but in spite of that, her letter is sincere. Despite her bad
use of the Portuguese language which I have tried to
convey in this translation, she tells her tale so well that
we can almost re-live the scene as if we were there
ourselves. In my opinion this means that the letter was
written with emotion; the emotion of something that
might really have happened.
There are also technical details which are very
interesting, such as the bluish while light which showed
everything inside the body of the patient (an advanced
form of X-rays); like the instrument looking like a
flashlight, which evidently was emitting some kind of
radiation capable of killing the cancer cells (an advanced
form of cobalt ray therapy‘?); and like the chemical
treatment to complete the cure, which also makes
sense. Another interesting thing is the telepathy through
physical contact. There is also the description of the
humanoid occupants of small size with long
hair, light eyes slanted like the Chinese of which we have
seen in other cases with disturbing frequency.
However, I was ready to reject this case mostly
because of the part involving telepathy (in which I don’t
believe). I didn't, only because of another case (also in
my 'reserve’) which happened in the night of October
I0, 1957 (15 days before). l will describe only a small
part of it: "Then a door was opened in the object
automatically (like a Convair door). There appeared
two persons, then two more. then still two others and
finally a seventh one, who passed between the two
groups formed by the others. They watched the truck
for three minutes, all of them; all those people looked
like men of Earth but they were smaller in size, had
long hair on the shoulders and the clothes were lumi-
nous at the chest. "When those small men were looking
at me I went into a trance-like state and had the strange
feeling that they were saying: We come in a peaceful
mission _ . ." (unquote).
As the case of the “operation" was never published,
the coincidence of another incident at the same period
with similar details on the occupants, clothes, and
mental communication again, is evidently disturbing. I
decided to put both cases in the "special File” for future
reference. The case of the “0peration" is not closed yet.
As a medical doctor. living in Rio. I still hope to
some clue (among my patients and other doctors) about
someone who was cured from a gastric cancer in some
unexplainable way.

MAN TRAPPED IN TIME VORTEX APPEARS IN THE FUTURE
By Terrence Aym
Did a space-time vortex snatch a man from the 1800s and plop him down in the middle of traffic on a busy New York City street? Many witnesses—including the New York Police Department—say YES…
Time travel stories have emerged over the centuries . One of the best time travel stories convinced many people—including some of the NYPD—that time travel’s not a theory, but real.
The Spanish website sinmisterios.com recounts the tale of the best documented occurence of time travel in recorded history. The incident is allegedly corroborated by witnesses 74 years apart.

All details are said to be documented by official law enforcement records.
Rudolf Fenz, Senior disappeared in 1876. Despite an intense search by police, Fenz was never found. Yet his family always held out hope that the kindly immigrant from Europe would return. They waited years, eventually dying one-by-one still with the hope that their beloved Rudolf might come back.

Busy New York City, New York — circa 1950s
The return of Rudolf Fenz
Long after all his living relatives had died, Rudolf Fenz returned. And he returned in the most incredible fashion possible. For Rudolf Fenz suddenly materialized on June 1950 in the middle of a busy Fifth Avenue in downtown Manhattan—74 years after vanishing without a trace.
Seconds after appearing in the midst of heavy traffic he was struck down and killed by a car.
Time had played a cruel trick on Fenz, it propelled him three-quarters of a century into the future only to toss him in front of a speeding automobile.
What is time, what is space? We really don’t know
New York’s Finest get involved
From the beginning of their investigation into the odd death of a strangely attired man, the New York police knew the case was anything but typical.
The motorist who struck and killed the odd pedestrian testified the man seemed bewildered and confused…in a daze. The driver swore the man literally appeared with no warning right in front of him.
The corpse itself was an enigma.
Although the deceased dressed immaculately and his clothes looked new, the police investigation confirmed the mystery man laying dead on the street wore clothing almost a century out of date.
Police officers of the 1950s were no-nonsense cops
According to police records - written by the
investigating officers at the scene of the accident—the dead man wore a black coat, a wide-brimmed hat, trousers and odd shoes that fastened with archaic, 19th Century style oversized buckles. He appeared to be in his early thirties.
Police found coins long out of general circulation—some still retaining mint luster—in the man’s pockets. In his leather billfold were U.S. banknotes with dates preceding the 1870s and crisp calling cards engraved with the name “Rudolf Fenz, Senior.”
The officers also discovered a receipt for the boarding of horses and storage of a carriage among the man’s effects.

Amazing facts uncovered
Unable to determine where Rudolf Fenz, Senior lived—or locate any next of kin—the police handed the case over to one of their crack missing person’s investigators, Hubert Rihn. With the resources of the Missing Persons Bureau of the State of New York, Rihn contacted his counterparts in European countries, including Austria and Germany, in an attempt to find any existing relatives of the victim.
Allegedly, Rihn’s investigation ran into blind alleys.
Finally, almost in an act of desperation, Rihn requisitioned a copy of an old New York City telephone directory from 1939. There, the dogged investigator found an important clue: the directory listed a man named Rudolf Fenz, Junior.
1950s New York where a confused Fenz met his death
That discovery, followed by a lot of painstaking police work, led Rihn to an elderly woman, the widow of Rudolf Fenz, Junior.
Here the case takes its most unusual and bizarre turn. The facts that emerged left the officers of the NY police force stunned.
During a lengthy interview with Mrs. Rudolf Fenz, Jr., she told investigators that her father-in-law, Rudolf Fenz, Senior, disappeared during his daily walk. At the time, his son—later her husband—was only four years old. Reports were made by the family and an investigation was undertaken by authorities, but no trace of her missing father-in-law ever surfaced.
The year was 1876. Rudolf Fenz, Senior was then 31 years old.
So Rihn dug into the 19th Century archives of unsolved missing persons cases recorded by the Missing Persons Bureau of the State of New York. There, to his astonishment, was the record of one Rudolf Fenz, Senior, reported by his family as missing. The record stated he’d never returned from his daily walk.
Photo claimed to be Rudolf Fenz, Senior: Time traveler
An old photograph of Rudolf Fenz, Senior accompanied the missing person report. The photo was the exact likeness of the man killed on the busy New York street.
Could the hapless Fenz, out for his daily walk, have been swept up by a time vortex and thrust into the alien world of the future there only to meet a swift and merciless death?
If so, then Rudolf Fenz, Senior, who lived only 31 years, died 105 years after his birth.
